Ursula Ströbele

Ursula Ströbele is professor at Braunschweig University of Art. In 2025 she started her new research project Ecologies of Sculpture, a cooperation of the HBK and the Sprengel Museum Hannover. Her research focus is on sculpture theory of the 20th century, digital phenomena of the sculptural, queer ecologies, and infrastructural studies of production and transport. She is working on a (book) project about ‘Queering the Canon. The Expansion of Media-Specific Terms in Sculpture 1968-1989’. Together with Prof. Dr. Marta Smolińska from the University of the Arts in Poznań, she is researching ‘Sculpture 1900-2000 - A Que(e)rse History: On the Revision of the Sculpture Canon and the Expansion of Media-Specific Terms’.

Ursula Ströbele ist Professorin an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig (HBK). 2025 startete sie ihr neues Forschungsprojekt Ecologies of Sculpture, eine Kooperation der HBK mit dem Sprengel Museum Hannover. Ihr Forschungsschwerpunkt liegt auf der Skulpturtheorie des 20. Jahrhunderts, digitalen Phänomenen des Skulpturalen, queeren Ökologien sowie infrastrukturellen Untersuchungen von Produktion und Transport. Derzeit arbeitet sie an einem (Buch-)Projekt mit dem Titel „Queering the Canon. The Expansion of Media-Specific Terms in Sculpture 1968–1989”. Gemeinsam mit Prof. Dr. Marta Smolińska von der Universität der Künste in Poznań forscht sie zu “Sculpture 1900–2000 – A Que(e)rse History: On the Revision of the Sculpture Canon and the Expansion of Media-Specific Terms”.
