Helena Julian

Helena Julian is an independent curator and writer based in Amsterdam. Her background in art history and critical theory informs the projects she develops with artists and writers. Central to her work is a commitment to artistic practices that connect performativity, language and social context. She writes for art and culture magazines including Metropolis M, Mister Motley, Frieze and is a contributing editor for zweikommasieben magazine. Her recent writings have focused on how individual contemporary artists amplify or contrast broader narratives, and how performativity can be used as a method to sustain a long term artistic practice. Additionally, she works as an advisor for the Mondriaan Fonds.
As a guest-in-residence of TEMPORARS SUSCH in February 2025, Helena Julian is taking part in a weekend of inquiry. Together with resident author Noemi Smolik we will go into a winterly journey of shared thinking about art.
