Brit Barton

Brit Barton graduated from the University of Chicago, Department of Visual Art (MFA thesis advisors: William Pope.L and Matthew Jesse Jackson, Ph.D.). She is the winner of the 2024 Prix Meret Oppenheim in the Swiss Art Awards for her proposal to expand art criticism, both formally and structurally. Her proposal The Sitting Ovation, which is currently unfolding, will allow her to expand her writing on contemporary art, to slow down its process, to experiment with new forms of criticism and to work collaboratively with others in the field: other writers, but also artists, curators, and administrators. Barton is an accomplished writer with a compelling style that speaks to the urgency to rethink art criticism. She writes regularly for frieze, Spike, Mousse, Texte zur Kunst e.a.
As a guest-in-residence of TEMPORARS SUSCH in June 2025, Becca is taking part in a weekend of exchanges. Together with resident author Kirsty Bell we will go into a summerly journey of shared thinking about art and beyond.
